New textbook on clinical pharmacology
A new textbook on clinical pharmacology has been published by the Pharmaceutical Press (the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's publishing imprint).
‘Concise clinical
pharmacology’ has been published to provide
students of pharmacy and medicine with a thorough introduction from which
they
can gain a rapid understanding of individual topics within the discipline.
Pharmacological principles and mechanisms are covered, with a focus on
the therapeutic use of the drugs.
The textbook has a strong clinical focus and relates to particular body
systems or the therapy of a disease class. The 128 topics covered in
the book include Alzheimer’s disease, adrenal disorders, drug addiction
insomnia, hormone replacement therapy, bowel disorders, gastrointestinal
infections, osteoporosis, diabetes, antipsychotic drugs and genitourinary
systems.
The publisher says that the information has been presented in an accessible
format to assist understanding and revision for examinations. Each topic
appears with concise text and a diagram to elaborate and reinforce the
text. The book concludes with an extensive glossary of terminology to
support the text.
The book has been written jointly by pharmacist Ben Greenstein (senior
visiting research fellow, pain management team, Royal Free Hospital,
London) and his physician son Adam Greenstein (specialist registrar in
elderly medicine, Leeds General Hospital).
The 320-page paperback book costs £19.95. UK orders can be placed
by telephone (01767 604971), fax (01767 601640) or e-mail (rps@turpin-distribution.com)
