Guidance on retention of patient records will not be extended to community pharmacy, according to a Scottish Executive report. The report concludes that contractual arrangements between community pharmacists and the NHS make extending guidance to pharmacy inappropriate.

However, it hopes pharmacy will follow the Scottish Executive health department’s forthcoming guidance on records management where practicable.
