NHS consultation on five principles of self care launched

Consultation on five principles of self care has been launched by NHS Skills for Health Skills for Health works with employers to ensure that health care workers are equipped with appropriate skills.

It is seeking comments on whether the principles address the Government’s goal in the “Our health, our care, our say” White Paper to identify the skills needed to develop self-care support.

The five principles identified are: empower patients to make informed choices to manage their condition and care needs; communicate effectively to enable patients to develop and gain confidence in their self care skills; enable patients to use technology to support self care; enable patients to develop skills in self care; and enable patients to participate in service planning and access support networks.
