It is seeking comments on whether the principles address the Government’s
goal in the “Our health, our care, our say” White Paper to
identify the skills needed to develop self-care support.
The five principles identified are: empower patients to make informed
choices to manage their condition and care needs; communicate effectively
to enable patients to develop and gain confidence in their self care
skills; enable patients to use technology to support self care; enable
patients to develop skills in self care; and enable patients to participate
in service planning and access support networks.
