Antiplatelet therapy and stents

Patients treated with drug-eluting stents should continue taking dual antiplatelet therapy for one year, according to the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology. They warn that premature discontinuation of antiplatelet therapy markedly increases the risk of stent thrombosis.

The recommendations were posted online on 15 January 2007 ahead of publication in Circulation.
