Pharmacy mentoring database developed

Pharmacists wishing to be a mentor to other pharmacists, or those seeking a mentor themselves, are being encouraged to register with an online database — www.pharmentor.nhs.uk — developed by a joint leadership development group (LDG) of the United Kingdom Clinical Pharmacy Association and the Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists.

Graeme Hall, assistant chief pharmacist for clinical services, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust, and LDG steering committee member, told The Journal that there are now over 30 pharmacists registered with the database as mentors and that access is available to all pharmacists free of charge.

“Mentoring is used widely across a lot of different businesses as a way of support and developing the workforce,” he pointed out. Pharmacists can find mentoring helpful at many stages of their careers, for example, when looking for advice and guidance on career paths or if promoted to a senior position where there are issues they have not dealt with before, he added.

The website, supported by an unrestricted educational grant from GlaxoSmithKline, also provides access to a mentoring handbook and a resources document.
