“Excellent” response to education consultation
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society says that it has received an excellent response to its recent consultation on the principles of pharmacy education and training.
Eighty-four responses to the consultation were received and in addition,
44 people attended a week-long series of stakeholder meetings held at
the Society.
The Society says that the principles provide a framework for all parties
involved in pharmacy education and training to help them in considering,
for example, their approaches to curriculum design and assessment.
The responses are being analysed independently, and will result in the
Society obtaining substantial evidence to support the direction it intends
to take forward in pharmacy education and training, it says.
Full details of the consultation will be reported to the Council in March
before being made available via the Society’s website.
The Society says that respondents have clearly indicated their support
for equal opportunity, integration between education and training, professionalism,
resourcing of education and training and the balance between being science-based
and patient-centred.
Graham Phillips, chairman of the Society’s Education Committee,
says: “The consultation not only demonstrates that the Society
takes the views of members and stakeholders seriously, but that we will
listen to the views put forward and act accordingly. I hope that this
will encourage members to continue to engage with our root-and-branch
review of pharmacy education. It is crucial that we ensure that future
education policies keep pace with pharmacists future roles which, in
turn, reflect developments in society at large.”
