Updated guidance on endorsement of FP10MDAs

Updated guidance on the dispensing, endorsement and reimbursement of FP10MDA prescriptions has been issued by the NHS Business Services Authority, following a number of enquiries from pharmacists.

The guidance specifies that, where instalments are being collected daily, contractors should complete one line on the FP10MDA form for each instalment and will receive one set of fees per instalment.

Where the prescriber specifies that daily instalments are to be dispensed in daily dose containers in advance, but will be collected less frequently, contractors should complete one line for each daily dose container dispensed. The endorsement should clearly mark the date of supply together with the instalment date. If the advance instalments are dispensed in one bottle, only one set of fees should be claimed.

Where the prescriber requests supervised consumption, a fee can be claimed for both the supervised dose and the remainder taken away in advance. If the prescriber specifies that these doses must be in individual containers then a fee can be claimed for each container dispensed. If prescribers do not specify that instalments should be dispensed in daily dose containers in advance, only one fee will be payable regardless of whether the instalments have been dispensed in separate containers.

The Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee has produced examples of frequently asked questions on this subject, that are available at its website.
