Schoolchildren encouraged to pursue pharmacy careers
The Royal Pharmaceutical Society, in collaboration with the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences, has invited 100 schoolchildren to attend a celebration of science, “Science, pharmacy and all that …”, on 8 March at the Society’s London headquarters.
This event coincides with National
Science and Engineering Week 2007.
As the first event of its kind to be held by the Society, the aim is
to promote the profession and science of pharmacy to students with aspirations
of becoming the next generation of pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists.
Ten schools in the London Borough of Lambeth have each been invited to
select a group of 10 year-10 pupils who have shown an interest in science,
to explore the possibilities of pharmaceutical careers.
The Society says: “With a range of demonstrations, presentations
and networking opportunities, this is a fantastic opportunity for pupils
aspiring to a promising career in pharmacy.”
The event will begin at 2pm with an hour-long informal session, with
refreshments, at which the pupils will have the opportunity to network
with young pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists. At 3pm, after a
formal welcome from the Society’s President, Hemant Patel, the
schoolchildren will hear a series of short presentations on careers in
pharmacy and the pharmaceutical sciences. At 4pm there will be a finger
buffet and another opportunity for networking before the pupils depart
at 5pm with goodie-bags provided by GlaxoSmithKline.
