Regulation of pharmacy technicians to be considered by parliaments this year
Legislation to cover the compulsory registration of pharmacy technicians is to be laid before the Westminster and Scottish parliaments later this year, the Government has said.
Although the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians Order 2007 became law
on
7 February, the parts relating to technicians were delayed in order to
extend the
Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s powers to cover pharmacy technicians
in Scotland.
Bill Scott, chief pharmaceutical officer for Scotland, said last month
that the regulation of technicians in Scotland will have a legislative
slot within the next year in the Scottish Parliament. Regulation of technicians
will be through the existing Royal Pharmaceutical Society and will therefore
transfer to any new regulator, he added.
