Scottish strategy tackles health of ageing population
Improving health is identified as a key objective in a strategy
for older people, published this week by the Scottish Executive.
The strategy, “All our futures: planning for a Scotland with an
ageing population”, identifies six priority areas. These include
improving health and developing services in areas such as housing and
transport. Other aims include forging better links between the generations
and offering learning opportunities throughout life.
The strategy will lead to the establishment of two new organisations:
a National Forum on Ageing and a Scottish Centre for Intergenerational
Practice. Implementation of the strategy will be supported by £27m
of Scottish Executive funding.
First minister Jack McConnell commented: “Improving the quality
of life for older people and creating opportunities for us as a country
to benefit from their experience, is what this strategy is all about.”
