Quitters given help in Budget

VAT on nicotine patches and similar products is to drop from 17.5 per cent to 5 per cent to coincide with the smoking ban in England from 1 July, the Chancellor of the Exchequer announced in the Budget on 21 March. This should reduce the cost of a week’s supply of nicotine patches by at least £1.

The chancellor also announced that cash for investment and reform for the NHS in England would increase by £8bn for the coming financial year, and the amount spent on the NHS in the UK as a whole would rise by nearly £10bn.
