Clawback adjustment to be made to March dispensings in Scotland

Community pharmacy contractors in Scotland will be subject to a one-off additional clawback, it was announced this week.

According to an NHS circular, the amount clawed back on reimbursement of proprietary drugs during 2006–07 has fallen below target. Therefore, the Scottish Pharmaceutical General Council has agreed to a one-off supplementary clawback as a final adjustment for the financial year.

Harry McQuillan, chief executive officer, SPGC, told The Journal: “SPGC recognises that this money was being accrued across the year and that it is fair that this amount is clawed back.”

The one-off adjustment totals £1.445m across all contractors and will be applied to March dispensings (paid in May). The adjustment will be calculated on an individual contractor basis but the average figure is expected to be £800. The circular adds that existing clawback arrangements will remain in place until the outcome of the current discount inquiry is known.
