Herbal high warning issued

Vendors of unlicensed benzylpiperazine tablets have been warned by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency that such sales are illegal.

Benzylpiperazine tablets — sold under various names, including Pep Stoned, Legal E, Cosmic Kelly and The Good Stuff — are frequently claimed to be a legal, natural product based on pepper extract, despite the fact that benzylpiperazine is a synthetic compound that does not occur naturally in any plant.

Benzylpiperazine is a sympathomimetic stimulant.
