It is estimated that 87 per cent of head lice are resistant to conventional insecticides.

A new shampoo, Riddance, based on neem seed kernel extract, claims to avoid this problem because it has more than one mode of action. The manufacturers say that others have “jumped on the neem bandwagon” but use the wrong extracts from neem trees.
