Society summary

More than 5,000 pharmacy technicians now registered

More than 5,000 pharmacy technicians have joined the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's voluntary register since they were first encouraged to do so in January 2005.

The Society says: “Reaching the 5,000th registration demonstrates how seriously technicians take their role and is a positive step as anticipated legislation will render technician registration mandatory in the future.”

Of the pharmacy technicians who have registered, 65 per cent work in community pharmacy, 25 per cent are in hospitals and 6 per cent work in primary care.

A geographical breakdown shows that 85 per cent of registered technicians live in England, 7 per cent live in Scotland and 6 per cent live in Wales.
