New wave of community hospitals announced

Successful bids for a £50m wave of new community hospitals and super-surgeries, three of which feature pharmacies, were announced this week by health minister Andy Burnham. Six new health centres, two new community hospitals and eight refurbished community hospitals will open across England as part of the Government’s drive to provide more care outside large hospitals.

The Department of Health invited bids for £750m in funding to build a new generation of community health hospitals, health centres and polyclinics in July 2006.
