Statin link to lower sepsis riskStatin therapy is associated with reduced risk of sepsis in patients with end-stage renal disease (JAMA 2007;297:1455). Researchers followed 1,041 dialysis patients for 10 years and recorded 303 admissions to hospital due to sepsis. Those treated with statins were admitted to hospital with sepsis less frequently than those who were not (41 versus 110 admissions per 1,000 patient years). |
