DoH extends choice

Patients are to be allowed to book their own hospital appointments online at public libraries in 10 areas of England as part of the Department of Health's plans to widen choice.

There will also be a new NHS website in the summer — NHS Choices — to help patients choose where they want to be treated. Patients needing orthopaedic surgery will be allowed a free choice of any treatment centre in England, provided it meets NHS standards and cost limits.
