Council adopts revised principles of pharmacy education
The Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society has adopted a set of high-level principles for pharmacy education, following a detailed consultation with stakeholders.
The principles were adopted at the March
Council meeting, when the Council
also agreed to publish the final version of the principles document on
the Society’s website (www.rpsgb.org), along with a report on the
outcome of the consultation.
The Council was reminded that the production of the principles was the
first stage in the Society’s “Fit for the future” programme.
They would be used to guide the development and review of pharmacy education
generally and specifically ther Society’s review of its own education
policy and standards.
The principles were deliberately generic because they related to all
stages of pharmacy education, to all education providers and to employers
in both the public and private sectors. They were not intended to supersede
any other principles, standards or guidance. For example, in accrediting
MPharm programmes, the Society would continue to use the indicative syllabus
and criteria that set out its expectations for undergraduate education.
