Society awards honorary membership to Vincent Lawton, former ABPI chairman

Vincent Lawton, a former chairman of the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, was presented with a certificate of honorary membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society during the March Council meeting.

Professor Lawton was recognised for his distinguished service to the pharmaceutical industry and partnership with the Society. Particular reference was paid to his contribution to clinical trials policy and to the furtherance of health sciences. He also played a key role in supporting the Society’s work in understanding patients’ attitudes to medicines and medicines taking.

Professor Lawton is managing director of Merck Sharp & Dohme Ltd. He was chairman of the ABPI from 2004 to 2006. He received a CBE for his services to the pharmaceutical industry in the 2006 new year honours.
