New Scottish contract heralds busy summer

July is set to be an important month for community pharmacists in Scotland, with several developments under the new contract planned to start.

First on the list is the start of the second tier of the public health service. The topic selected for the first national public health campaign is increasing awareness about the minor ailment service (MAS). This will link with a public relations exercise to promote MAS.

Also due to start in July is the final pharmacy-testing phase of the computer systems that will support the acute medication service. The software will then be rolled out to pharmacies from as early as July, although most pharmacies will not receive it until September. The announcements were made last week at the pharmacy practitioner champions workshop in Edinburgh.
