Not all trusts took up specialist antibiotics funding offer

Wide variation is seen in the proportion of hospitals that have appointed specialist antibiotic pharmacists since funding was announced for appointments in every English acute NHS trust (PJ, 14 June 2003, p813).

Rates range from 91 per cent of trusts in the South Central NHS region to 38 per cent in the East Midlands region. The lowest rate — 25 per cent — was in Wales, with Scotland achieving more than 40 per cent.

The data are included in a hospital guide produced by Dr Foster Intelligence, a public-private partnership venture between commercial health care information provider Dr Foster and the Information Centre for Health and Social Care special health authority.
