Pharmacy Practice Research Trust receives future funding

The Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society agreed, at an additionally scheduled meeting on 20 April, to continue to work in partnership with the Pharmacy Practice Research Trust on projects funded under the agreed commissioned research strategy for 2007–11. The strategy will ensure the Society’s continued contribution to the development of a growing pharmacy evidence base. It offers a broad framework for research and includes three main areas: patients, medicines and professionalism in pharmacy; patient safety and pharmacy practice; and social capital, health inequalities and pharmacy.

The President, Hemant Patel, said: “Despite current discussions about the future of the Society, the Council is committed to ensuring that important decisions for the future of pharmacy, as and when they appear, are informed and supported by a robust evidence base. This is crucial in ensuring the sustainability of both an innovative and supportive centre of excellence for professional development and an effective regulator.

“Continuing to support the trust will ensure that research funded by the Society is accessible to a wide audience.”
