HPA reports on malaria cases

Nearly 80 per cent of the 1,758 cases of malaria reported in UK travellers last year were caused by the potentially fatal Plasmodium falciparum, according to Health Protection Agency figures. The data indicate a change in the pattern of infection over the past 20 years from predominantly P vivax to predominantly P falciparum.
