Formulary management system wins award

The award-winning system

The award-winning system in use

An intranet-hosted formulary management system has won this year's First DataBank Europe Guild of Healthcare Pharmacists Information Technology Award.

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s formulary management system allows users to search through an online version of the trust’s formulary.

Anthony Grosso, formulary pharmacist at UCLH, told The Journal that the Inform system can be accessed by staff across the trust and specialist pharmacists in each area of care have been given passwords so that they can update the formulary.

The system is used by a mix of staff, including doctors, nurses and pharmacists, and is used around the clock, suggesting that staff on call have found the system helpful, Mr Grosso said.

The award was established to encourage, support and promote information technology initiatives and best practice in the use of IT in pharmacy. The pharmacy department at UCLH will be presented with £2,500 in June 2007.
