BRM rejects renaming Society
A proposal that the Society should be renamed the “College of Pharmacists” was rejected by the branch
representatives’ meeting.
Moving the proposal, Martin Silver (East Metropolitan) said that none
of the dictionary definitions of “society” emphasised education,
learning, knowledge or honour or gave prestige or value to the pharmacists
of today and their representative body, whereas the definitions of “college” included “an
official body of members of a profession concerned with maintaining standards”.
Changing the name to “College of Pharmacists” could tick
all the right boxes in the mind of the public, the Government and the
media, he suggested.
