The Society

Responding to letters

From Mr D. S. Shah, MRPharmS

I read with surprise that the Royal Pharmaceutical Society has declined two invitations to clarify important issues that have been highlighted by members of the profession. I would like to ask the Society whether there are any formal processes for deciding which letters to respond to and if it would let us know the criteria. I believe that if letters highlight concerns that need addressing it does not favour the Society to decline to respond.

DAVID PRUCE, director of practice and quality improvement at the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, responds:

All correspondence and invitations to comment on issues that the Society receives from any source are subject to a robust internal process. The Society considers carefully all approaches on a case-by-case basis and decides whether a response is required or is appropriate. In cases where a need for a response is identified, consideration is given to the most appropriate method of dissemination, providing or signposting to information as and when it is available.
