Hemant Patel is President again

For the first time in more than 65 years, the Council of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society has re-elected its President to serve a third consecutive term of office.

At the Council meeting on 6 June, Hemant Patel was re-elected unopposed. He has been President since 2005 and was previously president in 1998–99.

In the election of the Vice-President, the successful candidate was Martin Astbury, who has been a Council member since 2003. Gerald Alexander, Vice-President for the past two years, did not seek re-election.

Andrew Gush, after only one year on the Council, was elected Treasurer. The current Treasurer, John Jolley, was ineligible for re-election, having served for three years, In the election of a pharmacist Council member to work with the Officers (in the absence of an immediate past-president), the successful candidate was David Thomson, Council member for Scotland. He succeeds Martin Astbury, the new Vice-President.

In the election of a lay member of Council to work with the Officers, Phillida Entwistle was successful. She succeeds Bob Michell, who on his re-election last year said that he would carry on for one more year only because other lay members should have the opportunity to work with the Officers.
