Faulty hospital pregnancy test kits recalled by Unipath
Women who have recently had negative pregnancy tests at hospitals and who remain worried that they might be pregnant have been told to seek advice from community pharmacists, among others.
The advice was issued by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory
Agency after The Journal went to press last week following Unipath’s
recall of lot HG0050 of Clearview HCG pregnancy test kits. A manufacturing
fault meant that the kits could give false negative results. The batch
of around 80,000 kits was distributed to hospitals in the UK and Europe
in March and April. About 100 test kits are believed to be affected by
the fault.
Unipath’s Clearblue home pregnancy test kit is not affected.
