nhs.uk offers patients choice about where to get treatment

The Government is providing online information to help people in England make choices about where they receive NHS treatment. “NHS choices” was launched this week by health secretary Patricia Hewitt.

The site includes information on medical conditions, and also allows patients to compare NHS hospitals’ ability to provide common procedures. “For example,” the Department of Health says, “those patients for whom waiting time is a critical factor will be able to identify the most appropriate hospital, while others who may wish to base their decision on travelling times, or incidence of MRSA, will also have their preferences met.”
