Scotland and Wales add their support for HPV vaccineMinisters in Scotland and Wales have echoed Department of Health support for providing a human papillomavirus vaccine as part of the childhood vaccination programme (PJ, 23 June, p727). All three governments support the recommendation of the Joint Committee for Vaccination and Immunisation that an HPV vaccine be included in the programme. The Scottish government says it is committed to providing the vaccine to girls around 12 years of age and intends to provide vaccines from autumn 2008. The Welsh Assembly Government says it hopes that girls will start being vaccinated “as early as 2008”. |
