Pharmacist loses appeal against CD conviction

Pharmacist Gary Fisher has lost an appeal against his conviction in March 2006 for conspiracy to supply cocaine (PJ, 12 May, p544).

At his original trial, it was the prosecution’s case that Mr Fisher, formerly of Upton St Leonards, Gloucestershire, had, over a period of years, supplied 20kg of mannitol, which is commonly used to double the apparent quantity of cocaine. When his pharmacy at Matson, Gloucestershire, was searched, £50,000 in bundled cash was found in a safe hidden under the toilet floor.

Rejecting his appeal this week, three appeal court judges ruled that Mr Fisher must have been lying when he claimed that he thought the mannitol was being bought for a lawful purpose.
