Programme and booking form for 2007 British Pharmaceutical Conference are available now

British Pharmaceutical Conference 2007The programme for the 2007 British Pharmaceutical Conference is now available. Entitled “The medicines maze: balancing risks and benefits”, the conference will take place at Manchester Central from 10 to 12 September 2007.

The programme, together with an online booking system, is available.

The theme of BPC 2007 is reflected throughout the programme, with keynote speeches and workshops addressing crucial technical and professionals issues that are facing pharmacy today. According to the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, the conference will showcase the latest developments in pharmaceutical science and practice research and include discussion and debate led by expert speakers.

As usual, each day of the conference will begin with an opening plenary session and then divide into science, practice and “science into practice” streams. Highlights include:

• A discussion on the White Paper, “Trust, reassurance and safety — the regulation of health professions in the 21st century”

• A practice debate on “Friend or foe? The media’s reporting of risks and benefits”

• A science debate on “Homoeopathy or allopathy? Which one would you choose?”

• A keynote address on “Errors and risk — what is the link?”

• A keynote address on “Cox-2 inhibitors: blood, guts, fashion and politics”

• Presentations on regulation, counterfeiting and prevention versus treatment

John Gentle, member of the Society’s Council and chairman of the BPC 2007 conference committee, said: “BPC 2007 addresses the many facets of the medicines maze with sessions that appeal to all sectors of the profession running through the three-day programme.”

He added: “The breadth of coverage is reflected in the diversity of science and practice debates, from holistic medicine to nanotechnology, from counterfeit drugs to new paradigms in treating arthritis, and from treating the individual patient to the conduct of the industry and the regulatory bodies. These high-level scientific and practice programmes emphasise the most important developments in the industry and the opportunities emerging on the horizon.”

As well as online, the programme and booking forms are available from Angela Lyons at conference organisers Health Links on 0121 248 3399 (e-mail alyons@health-links.co.uk).

BPC 2007 is sponsored by Boots The Chemists, the Pharmacists’ Defence Association, AstraZeneca, GlaxoSmithKline and Pfizer.
