New chief executive announced to take over helm at the Society

Jeremy Holmes: new Chief Executive |
Jeremy Holmes has been appointed the new Chief Executive and Registrar of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
Mr Holmes, who was most recently a director of strategy company PMSI,
was previously managing director of the Economists Advisory Group (a
think tank and economic research organisation established in 1965) leading
a number of policy impact studies and developing a specialist capability
in health economics.
He has worked with the Department of Health, Department of Trade and
Industry, Commonwealth Secretariat and European Commission, as well as
pharmaceutical companies including GlaxoSmithKline, Pfizer, Schering-Plough
and Sanofi-Aventis. He led the evaluation of the recent DoH-funded “Joining
up self care” initiative, and has also acted as an adviser to professional
organisations in the optics profession over many years.
Mr Holmes commented: “I see the role of the RPSGB as providing
leadership for the profession through a clear voice championing pharmacy
to government, the health care sector and the public. We must also serve
the profession by providing important and innovative services to support
our members and by actively engaging with them as we develop over the
coming years.”
President of the Society Hemant Patel added: “It is exciting for
the Society that Jeremy has chosen to bring his range of experience and
expertise at this time of significant change for the Society and for
the profession as a whole.
“He has a thorough understanding of health policy as well as a
distinguished track record of transforming organisations.”
Mr Holmes, who takes up his role on 1 September 2007, succeeds Secretary
and Registrar, Ann Lewis, who in January announced her decision to retire.
Mr Holmes graduated from Worcester College Oxford in 1979 with a double
first in English.
