Society delighted at response of tutors to its training day survey
Over 900 responses to a survey
of preregistration tutors (PJ, 12 May, p567) have been received by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s preregistration division. The survey was intended to determine the level of interest among current and prospective tutors in a pilot training day on workplace assessment and to find out how much training had already been undertaken by existing tutors.
Nicola Tyers, the Society’s preregistration manager, said the division
has been delighted and overwhelmed by the response. “We now have
an idea of the proportion of tutors who have been trained in workplace
assessment and the number who have identified these skills as a continuing
professional development,” she said. “We have also taken
note of the suggestions for tutor support. All of this information will
be essential for future planning.”
The division says that invitations will be sent over the next couple
of weeks to tutors who expressed an interest in the training day. It
warns that receipt of an invitation does not guarantee a place on the
training event so it is essential that replies are returned as soon as
possible. Places will be allocated depending on a number of factors such
as identifying tutors who have had no previous training, having a mix
of tutors from hospital and community, and the date of receipt confirming
availability to attend.
For tutors who are unable to attend a pilot training day, the Society
hopes to be able to offer the training later once the pilot event has
been assessed; there are no plans to roll out the training to all tutors
at this stage. Further information will appear in The Journal and on
the Society’s website in due course.
