Napp decides to deal only with three selected wholesalers

Another pharmaceutical manufacturer — Napp Pharmaceuticals — has decided to deal only with selected wholesalers.

Following a tendering process that focused on its Controlled Drug products with the aim of making efficiency savings for reinvestment in research, Napp has decided to distribute all its medicines only through AAH Pharmaceuticals, Phoenix Healthcare and UniChem. The change comes into effect on 1 October 2007.

“We remain committed to the established wholesale model; the only change in practice will be a reduction in the number of wholesalers Napp works with,” said Tony Mottram, head of commercial and NHS operations at Napp. “These partners have been selected on the basis of their proposals and guaranteed high levels of service, ensuring the supply of medicines to patients is unaffected.”

However, there will be nothing to stop other distributors ordering Napp products from the three chosen wholesalers, if they can get their orders accepted.

“It’s very important to stress that this is a traditional wholesaler model and not a direct-to-pharmacy scheme,” Clive Jones, Napp’s director of UK corporate affairs, added. “The main aim is to protect supply and service levels.”
