De Montfort remains on probation as MPharm provider

De Montfort University remains on probation as an MPharm provider following a visit from the Royal Pharmaceutical Society last month.

The university was put on probation two years ago following allegations of irregular assessment practices (PJ, 28 May 2005, p635).

The Society’s education committee met on 11 July and decided that the probationary status of the university should continue since some students whose marks were affected have not yet graduated. “It was a requirement that all students whose marks were affected in 2004 had to have left the university. Currently this is not the case so probation cannot be lifted,” said the Society.

Although the affected students were due to graduate this year, some of them did not pass the final examinations and will be in the system for at least another year.

The Society added that the university is working towards addressing its five-point action plan fully and that it will revisit in one year to assess the progress made.
