Retention fee 2008

Fees petition gathers pace

Disgruntled pharmacists have signed an online petition protesting against the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's planned rise in the retention fee from £283 to £425.

The Society announced the 2008 fee increase this week, citing increased costs of regulation arising from the Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians Order 2007, the deficit in the Society’s pension scheme and the costs of the Society’s forthcoming demerger as primary causes.

The petition attracted nearly 3,500 signatories in its first 24 hours.
