Bob Michell reappointed as Phillida Entwistle stands down

Bob Michell has been elected the lay member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society's Council to work with its Officers. He replaces Phillida Entwistle, who was elected to succeed him in the post in June (PJ, 9 June, p687), but who had now stood down on account of a potential conflict of interest with her position as a member of the Audit Committee.

Speaking to the July Council meeting, Dr Entwistle explained: “I want to apologise to Council for putting us in a situation where we have to have a rerun of this election. When I accepted the nomination in June, I did not appreciate that there was a conflict of interest with my role on the Audit Committee. Since then, I have been advised by the Society’s lawyers that there may be a conflict of interest and I have to accept that.

“The President was kind enough to give me the choice between the two roles. Because my original appointment to Council included the role on the Audit Committee, I decided to stick with the Audit Committee and withdraw from the Officers group.”
