New BPC initiatives allow more members to attend free

British Pharmaceutical Conference 2007New initiatives at this year’s British Pharmaceutical Conference have been put in place to extend the conference’s reach to a wider audience. There will be a “free branch members’ evening” and an “all students go for £5” day.

The branch members’ evening will take place on Tuesday 11 September in response to calls from branches to make BPC 2007 more accessible, the Society says. Branch members, particularly those in the Manchester area, are invited to attend the conference on this evening free of charge.

They will be able to access the exhibitions and careers forum, attend a science or practice poster session, meet fellow delegates at a wine reception sponsored by the Pharmacists’ Defence Association, and attend the hot topic session on “Supervision and the responsible pharmacist”.

On Wednesday 12 September, all undergraduate pharmacy students and preregistration trainees can attend the conference for £5. This offer has been extended from previous years when only third and fourth year undergraduates could attend.

A further new initiative at BPC 2007 is a Society stand, which will provide an insight into the wider work of the Society and the role it performs on behalf of members.

John Gentle, Council member and BPC 2007 chairman, said: “The new initiatives complement the returning initiatives, such as free exhibition entry and the BPC-PJ Careers Forum. The additional features bring a further dimension, consolidating the conference as a forward-thinking, inclusive event.”

BPC 2007, whose theme is “The medicines maze: balancing the risks and benefits”, takes place at Manchester Central from Monday 10 September to Wednesday 12 September.
