Lloyds avoids competition referral

Lloydspharmacy's acquisition of Independent Pharmacy Care Centres will not be referred to the Competition Commission. In June 2007, the Office of Fair Trading expressed concerns about the effect of loss of competition on the provision of pharmacy services in some areas.

However, it said last week that divestments offered by Lloydspharmacy will restore the number of competing pharmacies and resolve its concerns.
