Six new guidelines scheduled for NICE work programme

Six new clinical guidelines are to be drawn up by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.

Topics for the organisation’s 16th wave of clinical guidelines are:

• Multiple pregnancy

• Transient loss of consciousness in adults

• Lower urinary tract symptoms in men

• Primary colorectal and anal cancer

• Rehabilitation after critical illness

• Mental wellbeing of secondary education pupils

Consultation has also started on possible technology appraisals that health ministers for England are minded to refer to the institute.

They are:

• Treating metastatic colorectal cancer with cetuximab

• Treating metastatic and/or recurrent squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck with cetuximab

• Treating specific cancers with intensity-modulated radiation therapy

• Topical negative pressure for wound management

• Multi-detector computed tomography for coronary artery disease

• Treating hypertension with aliskiren
