The President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, Hemant Patel, is calling on members to be a part of pharmacy's future by contributing to the Pharmacy 2020 consultation.
In a press release, the Society points out that Britain is in the midst
of great political, economic, technological and social change that is
impacting heavily on the health care system. Pharmacy 2020 is a response
to these changes, it adds.
Through Pharmacy 2020 the
Society aims to determine exactly where pharmacy will be in a decade’s
time and the route it will take to get there. The consultation, which
closes on 28 December 2007, is designed to collect
members’ opinions on the future of the profession.
As he submitted his own Pharmacy 2020 consultation form, the President
said: “This is an exciting, but uncertain, time for the profession.
Pharmacy 2020 aims to secure a mainstream role for pharmacy services,
consolidate the clinical position of the profession and highlight the
important role pharmacists play in the health and social care of millions
of people everyday.
“Pharmacy 2020 offers us all a unique opportunity
to help shape our future: it is relying on the commitment of the membership
for its success. Please do complete the consultation document: together,
we can make a real difference to the future of the profession.”
Members can respond to the Pharmacy 2020 consultation on the Society’s
website, or by completing the Pharmacy 2020 document
distributed with The Pharmaceutical Journal on 6 October 2007
(PDF 370K).
