The PHARMAs — pharmacists honoured at inaugural awards ceremony in Birmingham

Pharmacists from all areas of the profession were among the winners of the inaugural Pharmacy Awards — the PHARMAs — held this week in Birmingham in conjuction with the Pharmacy Show.

Karen Acott — winner of the primary and community care pharmacy award for her work in educating patients about medicines compliance at Wallingbrook Health Centre, Chulmleigh, Devon — was selected from all the award recipients as pharmacy professional of the year.

Andrew Twimasi, of Britannia Pharmacy, Ilford, was presented with the Pharmacy Show chairman’s award by Kirit Patel, Day Lewis Group chief executive. Mr Twimasi was recognised for clinical excellence in running a local primary care trust anticoagulation clinic.

Ann Lewis, recently retired secretary and registrar of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, received a lifetime achievement award.
