Public health agenda not a fad, says Society President

Pharmacists need to accept clinical and public health pharmacy as serious Government priorities and not short-term fads, Hemant Patel, President of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, told conference participants at the Pharmacy Show held in Birmingham earlier this week.

“In 18 months’ time the practice of community pharmacy will be significantly different and certainly more clinical. The question is: do you want to be a ‘flat-earther’, or a pioneer,” he said.

“As a profession we need to have a collective vision of where we are going so that we can make the right decisions now about our future,” he added.

The President reminded the audience that they could be involved in shaping the profession’s future by participating in the Pharmacy 2020 consultation — forms for which are available from the Society’s website.
