BAPW plans to expand set of member bodies

Plans to expand membership of the British Association of Pharmaceutical Wholesalers to include other representative bodies are under discussion.

Martin Sawer, BAPW executive director, told The Journal that the BAPW is exploring opportunities for broadening its membership base: “We want to be seen to be a facilitator to bring together different partners in the supply chain.”

Mr Sawer said that existing associations, such as the National Pharmacy Association, the Pharmaceutical Services Negotiating Committee and the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry, would be invited to become affiliate members, allowing them to take part in BAPW working parties and business days. There are also plans to broaden the associate membership category to include other groups, for example, pre-wholesalers or large pharmacy chains.

Mr Sawer said that BAPW would be consulting on these plans, and it expects to reach a decision in January 2008.
