Consultations on education reform under way
Two Royal Pharmaceutical Society consultations, within the broad theme
of “education”. are under way.
The first consultation has arisen out of the fact that the Society is
responding to the Department of Health’s request for views on student
registration on the basis of the risk they pose to patients and the public.
The request is in the White Paper “Trust, assurance and safety — the
regulation of health professionals in the 21st century”. For pharmacy,
questions need to be asked about the registration of MPharm students,
preregistration trainee pharmacists and preregistration trainee pharmacy
technicians. The Society is taking the opportunity to ask what the relationship
between students and a future professional body for pharmacy could be.
This consultation runs until 9 November.
The second consultation has arisen because the Society wants to convene
an expert group in late 2007/early 2008 to redesign MPharm and preregistration
training as part of its education reform programme. Before the expert
group convenes, the Society wants preliminary views about the shape the
reform should take. This consultation runs until 30 November.
Copies of both consultations are available from the Society’s website via
the “consultations” tab on the home page,
or from Christine Martin (tel 020 7572 2267; e-mail christine.martin@rpsgb.org).
