Pope addresses pharmacists

Pope Benedict XVI has warned catholic pharmacists not to ignore their consciences and to avoid any involvement, whether direct or indirect, in the supply of medicines used for abortions or euthanasia.

Speaking at the 25th international congress of catholic pharmacists in Vatican City earlier this week, the Pope said conscientious objection was a health professional’s right. He added that pharmacists have a role in educating patients so they understand the ethical implications of using certain medicines.
