Pass rate of 81.2 per cent in the Society’s autumn registration examination
The pass rate in the Royal Pharmaceutical Society’s autumn
registration examination this year is 81.2 per cent, compared with 92.7 per cent in the main
summer examination (PJ, 28 July 2007, p110). Last year’s figures were 86.5 per cent in the summer examination and 84.5 per cent in the autumn.
The number of candidates was 314, of whom 255 were successful.
In the separate section of calculation questions, which candidates have
to pass in addition to passing the examination as a whole, 294 (93.6
per cent) of the candidates were successful.
The mean percentage scores for the different components of the examination
were as follows: overall 77 (range 51–96); closed book 73 (range
52–94); open book 80 (range 39–100); calculations 86 (range
0–100).
The mean percentage scores for the individual syllabus sections were
as follows: Section 1 (professional and legal practice) — part
I (professional practice of a pharmacy) 71, part II (legal aspects of
providing a pharmaceutical service) 76; section 2 (clinical and pharmaceutical
practice) — part I (clinical practice) 77, part II (pharmaceutical
aspects of practice) 69; section 3 (systems and procedures) 71.
Of this year’s 314 candidates, 287 were UK graduates or sandwich
course students, of whom 239 (83.3 per cent) passed and 48 (16.7 per
cent) failed. The remaining 27 candidates were pharmacists from overseas
seeking to register via the adjudicating route. Of these, 16 (59.3 per
cent) passed and 11 (40.7 per cent) failed.
For 46 of the candidates who failed, this examination was their first
attempt. For 11 of these candidates it was the second attempt, and for
two it was their third and final attempt.
The next sitting of the examination takes place on Friday 27 June 2008.
