Reply from Paul Wilson, commercial account director at Pfizer

Quotas with Pfizer

From Mr P. R. Rodwell, MRPharmS

As Pfizer is difficult to deal with, ie, it talks but does not listen or help, may I ask you to ask it publicly about the following?

David Watson (Pfizer director of trade) has publicly said: “We have not introduced quotas …”(Chemist and Druggist, 29 September 2007).

How come today on speaking to Pfizer I was reminded that I had exceeded my quota of Lipitor 40mg and therefore could not purchase any more this month (I have nine days left to run). What does it suggest I do? Send customers elsewhere? This is not helpful but not surprising since it is unable to tell the truth.

I look forward to the excuses, but trust one is not a manufacturing problem since I was told that that is not the case with this product.

Paul Rodwell
Wallingford, Oxfordshire

PAUL WILSON, commercial account director at Pfizer, responds:

It is critical for Pfizer that every UK pharmacy is able to buy sufficient supplies of our medicines to meet its patients’ needs.

We have a team dedicated to ensure that we bring sufficient product into the UK so that we can always meet demand and that pharmacies have more than enough stock to meet patient needs. Our order fulfilment rates are high: 99.7 per cent of all orders are delivered on time and in full.

However, on a few limited occasions we have had to manage highly irregular or unusual orders directly that may compromise our ability to ensure continued availability to all UK patients.

If pharmacists would like to discuss any aspect of the Pfizer “Direct-to-pharmacy” scheme, they can contact the dedicated customer contact centre on 0845 608 8866
